Chapter 64: Priceless

Drake

“Um, well, damn I was gonna figure out how to tell you before I actually had to,” she groaned. I stared down Antonio trying to fight off the urge to hurt him.

“You better start explaining Chimere,” I narrowed my eyes on her.

“Aye watch how you talk to her,” Antonio cut in.

“Who the fuck do you think you are to tell me how to talk to her? I’m still trying to figure out why your ass is anywhere near her,” I snapped.

“Antonio, can you give us a minute?” She turned to him.

“Yeah, I’ll go get started and you can meet me in there,” he kissed the side of her head before walking in the store. Mere looked down afraid to make eye contact.

“What the fuck was that Mere?” I don’t even know what to think.

“Um, we’re back together,” she said slowly.

“That doesn’t even make sense. Aren’t you dating Blake and since when have you been cool with this nigga?” I crossed my arms.

“I’ll start with the Blake thing. We’re not together and we haven’t been together for months,” she informed me.

“Haven’t you been hooking up with her?” Nothing was adding up.

“Yeah we’ve hooked up from time to time but that’s it. Nothing was official with Antonio and I had this understanding with Blake. I knew that Blake still had feelings for Jaznae just like I did for Antonio. So we decided to, I guess, be friends with benefits until one of us got back together with our ex,” she explained.

“Why would you want to be back with him!?” I didn’t want to have to go through this again.

“He’s changed Aubrey and I would know. I’ve been friends with him for the last two years. We were just friends and when I had that understanding with Blake, I decided to see if this would actually work,” she shrugged.

“You’re making the biggest mistake of your life. Do you want to die!?” I snapped at her.

“I’m gonna be fine Aubrey! He’s not the same person that he was years ago and you just need to trust my judgment on this,” she cut her eyes at me.

“You want me to trust your judgment? Just like years ago? You’ve been selling me this bullshit for years. He didn’t change back then so what makes you think that he’s different? I never thought that you would be this stupid,” I groaned in frustration.

“I’m stupid? I’m grown Aubrey and I don’t need you babysitting me like I’m some fucking kid. You can either support me or not. I’m not changing my decision,” she stood her ground.

“I ain’t ever gonna support you on this,” I shook my head.

“So much for always having each other’s backs right?” I saw her eyes water up.

“Mere,” I started but she stopped me.

 “Just leave me alone,” she walked away.

  

Nicki

“So you know we gotta talk about it right?” I looked at Blake while Cassie agreed. I’ve been dying to talk to her since it happened.

“Talk about what?” She seriously acted like nothing happened a couple of days ago. From what I saw when I walked in, I wonder how far they would have gone if I didn’t walk in. They were really into each other and it seemed like they were blocking out everything else in the world. We heard yelling from the kitchen but thought that they should handle it themselves.

“Blake, we walked in on you and Nae kissing and it wasn’t like a peck, you guys were really going at it,” Jessi told her. Blake sighed and put her head in her hands.

“It wasn’t planned, I swear to you that I didn’t plan that shit. She pissed me off and we really argued like we never have before. I have never been that angry in my life and I guess I just kissed her out of anger,” she explained.

“Wait so you kissed her?” We all thought that Nae kissed her. I mean Blake isn’t known to make the first move kind of thing.

“Yeah and I knew exactly what I was doing; no confusion,” she explained all of that but all I could think of was Mere.

 “Did you tell Mere?” She nodded and I looked at her strangely. “How did she react?” She smiled a little before replying, “She laughed.”

“What the fuck? You tell your girlfriend that you kissed another girl and she laughed?” I scrunched up my eyebrows. None of that makes any type of sense in my head. Mere was known to be a hothead at times so I can’t imagine her just laughing this off.

“That’s just it Nic, she’s not my girlfriend. We were dating in Florida but we had an understanding when we came back here. We were sorta friends with benefits until one of us got back together with our ex,” she confessed.

“That’s why y’all kept saying that you guys had an understanding,” I finally connected the dots. Now that was starting to make sense because she kissed Nae twice and never had that guilty expression.

“So are you gonna be with Nae?” Cassie questioned her. Blake let out a sigh and shrugged her shoulders.

“I don’t know everything is so complicated now that I’ve kissed her.” She truly was confused and I have no idea what she might do.

“Speaking of Nae, I gotta go. I was meaning to talk to her about something important,” I hopped to my feet. “I’ll see y’all later,” I hugged them before leaving. I decided to stop at Aubrey’s house first before heading over to Nae’s. I walked in and saw him pacing around the living room. “Are you okay?” I asked cautiously. He snapped out of his trance and looked at me.

“She’s dating him! She’s gonna be that stupid and get her ass beaten again. I can’t have that happen to her,” he shook his head in anger.

“Aubrey, she’s grown and you need to stop being so protective,” I walked up to him.

“It’s hard to snap out of that. She was eighteen when he put her in the emergency room and in my eyes she was still a baby,” I stiffened at the word baby. “What’s wrong?” He looked down at me.

“Nothing,” I forced a smiled. He eyed me but brushed it off. “I need to meet up with Nae. I’ll be back later,” I pecked his lips and was about to go but he wrapped his arms around my waist. He kissed me one more time before pulling away.

“I love you,” he smiled.

“I love you too Aubrey,” I returned the smile and left.

Mylan

“What are you doing baby girl?” I heard dad ask as I typed on my computer.

“I was just searching for something,” I closed it and looked at him. “It’s nice to have you and mom in the same house,” I smiled.

“It is and I promise that I won’t fuc-mess up again,” he caught himself before he cursed.

“I hope you know that I hear curse words all the time,” I reminded him.

“I still don’t like cursing around you. You’re my baby girl and I ain’t trying to be that kind of parent,” he shrugged.

“Well I think you’re an amazing father,” I complimented him.

“And you’re the most amazing daughter I could ever ask for,” he kissed my forehead. I bit the side of my cheek contemplating if I should ask this question or not.

“Can I ask you something?”

“You know you can ask me anything,” he gave me his undivided attention. I stared at him for a second before shaking my head.

“Never mind, it’s not important.”

“Are you sure?” He eyed me questionably.

“Yeah I’m sure. Can I go next door to see Nyra?” I asked and he nodded. “I’ll be back before dinner,” I hugged him and left. I don’t think I’ll be brave enough to ever ask that question.

Shad

“I remember back when you would stare at me from your window,” I chuckled while Cassie playfully pushed me.

“Shut up! I was young with a stupid school girl crush on you,” she shook her head.

“It ain’t like I'm that much older than you. I’m just twenty seven and you’re twenty four,” I shrugged.

“You seem so much older in my eyes,” she laughed.

“Now you got jokes huh?” I looked over at her laughing. I loved to watch her smile and be so carefree. I guess she noticed my stare because she got up from the couch. She grabbed Alexis from the other couch and balanced her sleeping figure in her arms.

“I should get going,” she shot me a small smile before leaving. I was only alone for ten minutes before Drake came over.

“Wassup,” I let him in.

“Hey,” he dapped me up before we went over to the couch.

“How are you and Nicki doing?” I asked.

“We’re really good and I’m glad we are. It’s been a long six years,” he sighed.

“I know that’s right,” my mind automatically went to Cassie.

“I’m serious about this, I wanna marry that girl,” he blurted out.

“Wait, you ain’t thinking about now right?” I scrunched up my face.

“Not like now but I can see myself proposing in the near future,” he smiled.

“You mean like a couple of months near?” I questioned.

“I guess yeah. She means the world to me already so I don’t see why not make it official. We’ve wasted six years and I don’t wanna waste anymore. We have a family and I’d love to have more kids with her,” his eyes lit up and I felt happy for him.

“I’m proud of you bro. I bet Mere is too,” I noticed him tense up. “What’d you do?”

            “She’s back with him,” he shook his head in anger.

“You mean Antonio?” He nodded and I felt my blood boil. “Imma kick his ass,” I couldn’t believe this.

“I already tried but she stopped me. She wanted me to support her but I can’t. I can’t have her getting hurt again,” he sighed.

“I don’t either but she’s right, we should support her. She’s older and if she wants to be with him, who are we to stop her? I just think we should keep a close eye on him and the second he steps out of line, we’re coming for his ass,” I told him.

“Now I gotta go apologize to her. Nicki told me the same thing but I was just being stubborn,” he admitted.

“Stubborn is your middle name,” I joked and he laughed.

 Nicki

I walked into her living room and she was watching TV. “Hey Nic,” she smiled at me but it fell when she saw the look on my face. “What’s wrong?” She stood and I tried to hold myself together.

“I can’t keep lying to him. I know I have to tell him but I know that he’ll hate me for it. I was young and I was dumb and I would take it back if I could,” I blurted out.

“Whoa slow down. What are you talking about?” She scrunched up her brows.

“I didn’t know until I got to Paris and I made a mistake. I made a huge mistake and it haunts me every time I close my eyes,” I felt tears falling down my cheeks at a rapid speed.

“What did you do?” She moved and wiped my tears from my face.

“I-I was p-pregnant Nae,” I finally admitted. She looked at me in shock for a minute.

“You were pregnant? What happened to the baby?” She scrunched up her eyebrows.

“I’m a murderer Nae. I’m so ashamed of myself. I had an abortion because I couldn’t stomach the thought of having Aubrey’s baby. I-It w-was the biggest m-mistake I’ve e-ever made in my l-life,” I broke down in her arms.

“It’s gonna be okay Nika,” she pulled me close and rubbed my back as I tried to calm down.
