Chapter 22: My Shadow Is My Only Friend

Nicki’s P.O.V.

“You came,” he turned to me and smiled.

“Why didn’t you tell me that you were at my competition?” I immediately asked him.

“Because I saw your ex there and knew it would be drama. I didn’t want to add onto that,” he shrugged. I stared at him to just observe his features. He’s getting old. How did he even know who my ex is?

“Well what do you want?” I crossed my arms.

“I wanted to see you and My. Can’t a father see his kids?” He questioned me.

“Oh so now you wanna claim us. What about years ago? What about when mom died? Where were you then?” I snapped my eyes at him.

“Look, I know that I’ve made mistakes but I just want to make things right between us,” he pleaded.

“We don’t need you anymore. If you want what’s best for us, then stay away,” I said before walking away.

“Don’t do this Nika,” he pleaded. I spun around and glared at him.

“Don’t call me that. You’ve lost every last right to call me that,” I spat out.

“Listen, I know you’re hurt but-,” he said but I snapped.

“Hurt!? You think you know how I feel!? You up and left us! You didn’t even come to mom and Caiah’s funeral. You disgust me,” I looked at him in pure hatred.

“I’m only here to tell you-,” he tried but I cut him off.

“I don’t give a fuck why you’re here. I’m leaving,” I walked away and never looked back.

Drake’s P.O.V.

I walked into My’s room and saw her on her bed. She had her head down but I knew she wasn’t asleep. “Can we talk for a second Mylan?” I asked her as I sat on the edge of her bed. She lifted her head to look at me then nodded.

“I’m sorry for making mommy cry, that was my intention,” I explained to her. She crawled to my lap and laid her head on my shoulder.

“I don’t like seeing mommy sad,” she whispered.

“Neither do I sweetheart,” I kissed her head. That’s why I had to handle Nebby last night. I realized I was wrong and I ended up telling her I was in a relationship. She looked hurt but understood that our time has passed. I left early and went home to Nicki.

“Daddy?” She called my name out.

“Yeah,” I looked down at her.

“Will you always be here? My other daddy left me. You won’t leave me too right?” She was on the brink of tears.

“I’ll never leave you My,” I held her close. I couldn’t imagine my life without Mylan and Nicki.

Nae’s P.O.V.

“I’m done,” I told CeeJay as we sat on my porch.

“What do you mean you’re done? With Blake, Nicki, or dance?” She asked me.

“All of it,” I sighed as I grabbed the pills from her. I grabbed a random number and popped them.

“I should have never given you those,” she mumbled.

“Shit, not you too. I don’t need another one of my “friends” telling me what they think is best,” I rolled my eyes.

“You’re going to end up killing yourself if you keep this up,” she told me.

“I don’t care. I’m probably better off dead. Then I wouldn’t hurt Blake anymore,” I stood up and went to go inside.

“Nae, don’t shut me out. Of all people, don’t shut me out,” she begged me.

“I just need some space Cee,” I told her before shutting the door. I walked back into my room and locked the door. I needed to make this quick and easy. I started off by grabbing a pencil and some paper.

Dear Blakelynn,

I know you’re going to freak out when you find out that I’ve passed but please accept that this is for the best. You’re the best friend I’ve ever had and if this was under different circumstances, I would almost call you my sister. I would but you’re not like a sister to me, you’re more than that. Nicki is like a sister to me and you would be to if I wasn’t in love with you…Yeah I’m in love with you. I know I told you I wasn’t and all that nonsense but I truly love you Blake. I love you to the point where it hurts to not be able to tell you. I love you but I don’t deserve you at all. You’re too good for me and I would only result in hurting you. I hope you can move on from me. Don’t ever forget how much I love you Blakey.

Love,

Nae

Nicki’s P.O.V.

“Where’s Jaznae?” Drake asked as soon as practice started.

“She’s not coming,” CeeJay said as she popped her gum.

“What do you mean she’s not coming?” He scrunched up his eyebrows.

“She said she’s done,” she shrugged before stretching.

“Can I go and check on her coach?” Blake asked him. Drake nodded as Blake ran out of practice. Whatever Nae’s going through, I hope she’s okay.

“Take a ten minute break everyone!” Drake shouted before going to his office. After a few minutes, I followed him in. I walked in and locked the door. “Hey,” he smiled small but it wasn’t returned.

“Where were you last night?” I stood in front of him with my arms crossed.

“I told you I was-,” I didn’t even let him finish before I cut him off.

“You got one more time to lie to me,” I cut my eyes at him.

“How’d you find out?” He sighed.

“I have my ways Aubrey. Why did you go see her after I told you I wasn’t okay with it?” I was hurt because he lied to me.

“I didn’t want to hurt her and I didn’t want to hurt you,” he explained.

“Are you still in love with her?” I looked away afraid of the answer.

“Of course not. I made a mistake and I fixed it baby,” he pleaded.

“Did you sleep with her?” I turned to him.

“No, we didn’t do anything. I told her about you and told her we couldn’t hang out anymore,” he said truthfully.

“And you couldn’t have done that over the phone?” I locked eyes with him.

“I need to end our friendship in person. At first I thought we could hang out without causing trouble but I realized I was wrong and I’m sorry baby,” he confessed.

“Whatever Aubrey,” I dismissed him. He smirked and pulled me to him.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered before kissing my neck.

“Aubrey!” I hissed as he started to suck on my spot.

“Do you forgive me babe?” He asked as his hands roamed over my body.

“Yes,” I exclaimed before pushing him off me. He had that stupid grin on his face before pecking my lips.

“I am really sorry,” he whispered against my lips.

“I forgive you but don’t do it again,” I declared.

“I won’t,” he smiled before kissing me again.

Blake’s P.O.V.

I walked into Nae’s house and the door was unlocked. “Nae?” I called out but received no answer. I walked to her bedroom and her door was locked. I knocked a couple times but once again, no answer. I grabbed a bobby pin out of my hair and begun to pick it. Nae was the one who taught me to pick locks. I opened the door and was traumatized by what I saw.

“NAE!?” I yelled and shook her but she didn’t wake up. I quickly grabbed my phone and called 911.

“911, what’s your emergency?” A lady answered.

“My friend, I think she overdosed,” I cried.

“Is she breathing?” She asked me. I checked and my heart fell.

“No,” I said softly.

~

“What happened!?” Nicki immediately asked me when she got to the hospital.

“She overdosed Nic,” I cried. Almost all the girls from the dance team except for Cassie. I understand why she wouldn’t want to be here but she said she hopes Nae’s okay.

“How did I not notice the signs,” CeeJay had her head in her hands. I walked away from the group for a second to get myself together. I grabbed the note that had my name on it. She left it right beside her. As I read it, tears flew down my face before I finally broke down. I slid to the floor and cried.

“Blakelynn!” Nicki rushed towards me and held me.

“It’s gonna be okay,” she whispered.

“No it won’t,” I sobbed.

“Why?” She scrunched her face up. I handed her the letter and it was complete  silence for a while.

“Oh Blake, I’m so sorry,” she wiped tears off her face.

“She’s in love with me and then she does shit like this!? She’s so god damn selfish!” I got to my feet and paced.

“Blake,” Nicki watched me cautiously.

“I’m fine,” I snapped before walking outside to get some air. She’s gonna be okay. She has to be okay.

Drake’s P.O.V.

I kissed the top of My’s head as we sat in the waiting room. Most of the girls went home because it was late except for Nicki, Blake, and CeeJay. CeeJay was in a corner zoned out while Nicki was sitting next to me. Blake was pacing around the room. “Auntie Nae is gonna be okay right daddy?” Mylan looked up at me.

“I hope so,” I mumbled as she snuggled up against me. A doctor came out and looked around.

“Family of Jaznae?” He called out. We all jumped up but realized none of us were related to her.

“I’m her sister,” a girl walked towards him. He looked down at the paper and then sighed. We all prepared for the worst.

This is my apology post. I need a break from writing but I'm back to posting. If you thought this was drama, it's just getting started. Three more chapters until the end of part one.

  1. You're back! You don't know how happy I am to hear this! I love love love this story and it was horrible when you didn't post so I'm glad you're back at it. I knew Nae was gonna go out of control. They should have seen the warnings. I can't believe she wrote that note to Blake. Drake and My's moment was so cute. I can't believe Nicki's father is there. He sounds horrible. I hope Nae makes it. You can't kill her off! Thank you for this post! See ya Tuesday!
