Chapter 25: Fight For You

Nicki’s P.O.V.

I walked up to the house and knocked on the door. “Onika, what a surprise. Come in,” she moved aside and let me in. “I’ll go get her,” she disappeared upstairs. Cassie descended down the stair and stared at me.

“What are you doing here?” She asked softly.

“I needed to know why. Why would you do something like this?” I stared at her.

“I can’t answer that,” she mumbled.

“Did you really do this?” I questioned her. She nodded before crossing her arms. “Why would do something like that Cass!? I thought we were friends again,” I cried. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She looked at me and her face turned stone hard.

“We were never friends. I wanted you to believe that until I could get you back for what you did. Jaznae was right, you would see the real me soon enough. Well this is the real me and I don’t give a fuck about you. Now get the hell out of my house,” she snapped before going upstairs. I left her house in tears. I can’t believe she would do something like this. I drove home and crawled into bed. I just want to sleep until things go back to normal.

Cassie’s P.O.V.

I packed my last bag and put it in the moving truck. I’m getting the hell away from this place. Before I could go back inside, I heard someone call my name. I saw Nae coming towards me.

“I hope you’re happy,” I snapped at her.

“I am, my girl finally saw what kind of bitch you really are,” she smirked.

“What do you want?” I rolled my eyes.

“I just want to know how can you sleep at night knowing what you’ve done? Why did you do it?” She raised an eyebrow.

“You know why so get the fuck out of my way,” I glared at her before walking back into my house. I ignored another call from Shad. I can’t believe all this is happening. Everything is going wrong and I hate this! I hate myself. I slid on the floor and cried. I cried until I couldn’t cry anymore. Another call from Shad was coming in. I screamed and threw my phone against the wall in my room.

Chimere’s P.O.V.

“How is she?” I asked Aubrey as I walked into his house.

“She won’t talk to me. She’s camped out in her room and refuses to come out,” he sighed.

“Let me go talk to her,” I told him before going upstairs. I opened the door to find her sitting in a corner, staring at the wall. I sat next to her in complete silence. Every since she found out I was a lesbian, she became cool with me. “I know it doesn’t make sense but everything happens for a reason,” I broke the silence.

“Why would she hurt me like this?” She cried. I pulled her to me and let her cry.

“I don’t have an answer to that Onika but I know the truth will come out eventually,” I promised her.

“Thank you Mere,” she wiped her tears and gave me a small smile.

“That’s what I’m here for,” I smiled back.

Shad’s P.O.V.

“I don’t understand how she could do this,” I said to Mere as we watched the security cameras from last night. It clearly shows Cassie sneaking into the gym.

“Stop there!” Mere shouted. I stopped and noticed another figure walking into the gym first. “Go to the other camera,” she stated as I switch it. I couldn’t make out if it was a boy or girl but that person had pictures in their hand. “Looks like a boy,” Mere squinted. Cassie then showed up and yelled at him. She tried to take the pictures down but he said something that made her leave.

“She didn’t do it,” I said softly. “She didn’t do it!” I jumped up and ran to my car. I drove to her house and banged on her door. “Open up Cass!” I shouted.

“Are you looking for Cassie?” A little boy asked from next door.

“Yeah,” I nodded.

“She moved about an hour ago,” he confessed. She moved? How the hell does someone move in a day? “Thank you,” I told him before going to my car. I pulled out my phone and called her.

“I’m sorry but the number you reached is disconnected,” was all I heard before I broke down. How can she leave me?

~

“She didn’t do it,” I told Drake when he answered the door.

“What?” He scrunched up his face but I went upstairs to find Nicki.

“She didn’t do it,” I told her.

“Huh?” She looked up.

“She lied. She didn’t do it. She tried to stop the person who did it. I couldn’t figure out who it was but it looked like a guy. She didn’t do it!” I explained.

“I knew she wouldn’t do this,” she smiled.

“But there’s one problem,” I mumbled.

“What?” She asked.

“She moved,” I stated and she instantly got quiet.

Blake’s P.O.V.

“I told you to not get caught…..I know……I’ll figure it out….No….Bye,” I heard my mom say to someone on the phone.

“Who was that?” I asked her as I walked towards the kitchen.

“Oh no one sweetheart. You look so pretty today,” she complemented me.

“Thank you,” I looked at her strangely before leaving. My phone rung and I saw Nae was calling me.

“Hey,” I said as I got into my car.

“Hey what are you doing?” She questioned me.

“I’m about to go to Mere’s house but I can meet up with you later,” I told her.

“Okay,” she sighed.

“Are you okay?” I needed to make sure.

“I’m fine Blake,” she said before hanging up. I went to Mere’s house and let myself in.

“Hey,” she smiled from the couch.

“Hey,” I said before plopping down on it.

“So what’s  up?” She handed me a cup of coffee.

“I think my mom’s hiding something. I heard her talking to someone on the phone this morning and it’s not the first time I heard her talking to this person,” I explained.

“You should let it play out. Snooping will only make it worse. Like they say, don’t go snooping for something that doesn’t need to be found,” she insisted.

“Then there’s also Nae. I feel like I’m walking on eggshells around her. I don’t want to say the wrong thing,” I admitted. Mere looked down for a moment before looking back at me. “I’m sorry, is it too awkward to talk to you about her? I should have known,” I rambled.

“It’s okay Blake. We were friends way before we tried anything. I’m still here as your friend,” she reassured me. I smiled at her before further explaining my situation.

Drake’s P.O.V.

“You good?” I asked Shad as we sat at my table.
“Naw but I’ll be fine,” he mumbled.
“I know it sucks,” Nicki said before rubbing his arm.
“So what are we gonna do about the dance team?” She looked at me.
“What do you mean? There is no dance team,” I scrunched my face up.
“Isn’t there something that we can do?” She pleaded.
“Naw there isn’t,” Shad told her.
“I got an idea,” I smirked before getting up.

~

I was walking to my door when I heard some movement next to my house. New neighbors were moving in so I decided to introduce myself. I walked over and smiled when I saw a cute baby girl sitting in the trunk of their car.

“Hi, I’m your next door neighbor,” I told the girl. Her back was to me as she put down the box. She turned around and her smile flattened.

“Aubrey?” She locked eyes with me.

“Kolbie?” I looked at her in shock. We stood in silence before I heard My come out and begged me to take her to the toy store. I walked away from Kolbie, not being able to say anything. She’s here? She’s alive?

Jhene’s P.O.V.

“Shit,” I hissed as I ran. I ran as fast as I could but not fast enough.

“Come here you hoe!” I heard him yell. Before I knew it, he hit me. I fell to the ground and pleaded for him to stop.

“You know what I want,” he said sternly. I got up and quickly punched him. I ran and didn’t look back. Before I knew it, I was at Aubrey’s door. I banged on it before he swung it open.

“What the hell?” He took in my appearance. My hair was a mess, blood was all over me, and my shirt was ripped. He grabbed me and pulled me to him.

“What happened?” He asked.

“Can we talk about this later,” I begged. He nodded and brought me upstairs.

Nicki’s P.O.V.

I was over at my Aunt’s house. Her, Blake, and I were sitting at the table. “Who were you talking to?” She demanded.

“I called you both here because there’s something you both need to know," I looked at her in confusion.

“First off, Blake, it’s about your father,” she stated.

“Did you find him!?” Blake perked up.

“He’s not-,” Auntie tried to talk but Blake cut her off.

“Oh my god! When can I see him?” She immediately asked.

“He’s not your father Blake,” Auntie said sadly.

“Wait what?” Blake grew silent.

“I had an affair and that’s why he left,” she explained. Blake looked at her in horror.

“And why am I here?” I looked at Auntie.

“The accident your mother and Caiah were in,” she started but tears flew down her face.

“What about the accident?” I stood up.

“It wasn’t an accident. Someone meant to kill them,” she responded.

“Who!?” I started pacing. She was silent so I slammed my hands on the table. “WHO!?” I shouted. My mom and brother was a touchy subject.

“Your father,” she mumbled. Blake looked up at her and her eyes grew.

“No,” she backed away from her mom.

“Blakelynn,” she pleaded.

“Do not come near me. I can’t believe you! You’re such a whore!” She ran out the door and I was quick behind her.

“Blake!” I yelled. She turned to me and I pulled her into a hug. We both just cried.

“I’m a mistake,” she cried.

“No you’re not. God planned for you to be here,” I told her.

“No Nika, you don’t get it. The guy who she had an affair with was your father,” she confessed. For once in my life, I was silent.

Chapter 24: White Flags

Nicki’s P.O.V.

“Aubrey,” I nudge him while I tried to wake up.

“Hmm?” He groaned.

“Someone’s at the door,” I mumbled. He nodded and finally got up. I heard him open the door and then tried to shut it. I was nosey so I went to the stairs and listened.

“I need to talk to you,” I heard a guy voice.

“You need to leave right now dad,” Aubrey said sternly.

“I just need some then I’ll leave you alone,” he pleaded.

“Jhene took it for a reason,” Drake snapped.

“But she gave it to you. I know why you’re using it,” he accused.

“Go before you wake my daughter up,” Drake dismissed him.

“This ain’t over boy,” he said before he left.

“Give you what?” I asked as I walked down the stairs.

“You weren’t supposed to hear that,” he sighed.

“What do you have that he wants?” I questioned him.

“Look Nic, it’s complicated,” he tried but I glared at him.

“What. Do. You. Have?” I cut my eyes at him.

“I got some pain medication,” he admitted.

“Why?” I scrunched my face up.

“I can’t coach dance if I can barely move my knee. I need it so Jhene gives me some each month. She only does it because I buy her anything she wants,” he explained. He seemed as if was lying but I’m trying to trust him. If he says it’s just pain pills then I believe him.
“You shouldn’t use pills. You need to go to physical therapy,” I grabbed his hand.

“I promise you I’ll do that after this season. Please Nic,” he begged me.

“After this season, you’re done. I mean it Aubrey,” I said sternly. He nodded before pulling me into him.

Blake’s P.O.V.

“Hey,” I said to Nae as I picked her up. Ever since Nicki moved in with Coach Graham, I’ve been picking her up.

“Hi,” she smiled before leaning over and pecking my lips. I returned the smile before driving off. We got to the gym and got out. She grabbed my hand and laced her fingers through mine. When we walked in, all eyes were on us. I locked eyes with Mere and she shot me a small smile. She knew where my heart lied and understood. Nicki saw us and smiled.

“About damn time,” she said loudly as everyone agreed with her.

Cassie’s P.O.V.

“Nic,” I grabbed her arm and pulled her aside.

“Yeah?” She shot me a worried look.

“Look, I need to tell you something. I’m not sure how to tell you but-,” I tried to tell her but Coach Graham blew the whistle.

“We’ll talk later,” she smiled small before walking off.

“That’s exactly what I’m afraid of,” I mumbled as I joined the girls.

“Why do you seem so stressed?” CeeJay asked me as we waited.

“Some shit is about to pop off,” I confessed.

“What did you do?” She scrunched up her face.

“It wasn’t-,” I groaned because I was once again cut off.

“Who’s he?” She pointed to a guy who walked in.

“Shit,” I said under my breath.

“Let’s go into the gym,” Coach Graham directed him towards the gym. I quickly stepped in front of the door.

“You really don’t wanna go in there,” I gave him a look.

“Move aside Cassie,” he said as he shot me a confused look.

“I can’t Coach Graham,” I shook my head.

“She probably hiding shit in there,” Nae mumbled. I shot her a look before turning back to Coach Graham.

“Move Casandra,” he snapped. I moved aside with my head down as he walked in with the team. Everyone gasped as Coach Graham stood silent. Great.

Drake’s P.O.V.

I looked at Nicki before looking back at the gym. “What the hell is this?” I yelled towards the girls. The gym was covered with picture of Nicki and I. She sat on the floor and put her face in her hands.

“How the hell?” Nae looked around in shock.

“This is exactly why I’m here,” the principal of the school said.

“I can explain,” I started but he cut me off.

“No explanation is due. You might not be a teacher but you violated your contract. A coach cannot have a relationship with a member of a team or club. I’m sorry but you are fired Coach Graham,” he said before walked away. The gym grew silent.

“Who did this?” Nicki shot to her feet and shot every girl a look. There was more silence. “Now no one wants to speak up. Which bitch did this!?” She demanded.

“I bet it was that bitch,” Nae looked towards Cassie. Everyone turned to stare at Cassie.

“It wasn’t me,” she looked toward Nicki with a pleading look.

“That’s why you want to talk to me? To tell me that you did this shit? I knew something was off but I didn’t think you would do this shit to me! Why would you do this!?” Nicki yelled towards Cassie.

“I didn’t,” she started to get emotional.

“Then why does the video tape show that you were here last night,” Mere said as she walked towards her.

“That’s why I wanted to talk to you,” she walked closer to Nicki but she backed up.

“Why would you do this to her? She could’ve just told everyone that you were fucking Shad!” Nae walked towards her. Shad sighed as he rubbed the back of his neck.

“You bitch-,” Cassie started to shout towards Nae but Nicki cut her off.

“I don’t ever want to talk to you again,” she looked at Cassie with complete hatred. “And if Coach Graham is fired, then I quit,” she said before walking out the gym with me following her. We got to my car and before she could open the door, I pulled her into a hug.

“I’m so sorry this happened,” I kissed the top of her head as she cried.

“Let’s just go home,” she mumbled as we got into the car.

Blake’s P.O.V.

I walked up to Cassie and got mad. “Why would you do that to my cousin!?” I snapped at her.

“Blake, I didn’t,” she said softly but I was done with this. I pushed her hard and she fell on the floor. As soon as I was about whoop her ass, I felt a pair of arms holding me back.

“Calm down,” I heard Mere tell me. She pulled me away as CeeJay held Cassie back from trying to hurt me. Mere brought me out into the hallway to calm down. “Are you okay?” She raised an eyebrow. I nodded as I wiped some tears.

“I can’t be on this team if my cousin isn’t on it,” I told her.

“I know,” she admitted. She pulled me into a hug before telling me that everything was going to be okay.

“Thank you,” I smiled at her before I saw Nae standing by the door with a disapproving look.

“I’ll see you later Blake,” Mere said when she noticed Nae. I nodded before walking over to Nae.

“It wasn’t what it looked like,” I tried to reason with her.

“I know you two are friends and I’ll have to get use to that,” she acknowledged. I smiled before pulling her into me. “I quit,” she mumbled.

“So do I,” I grabbed her hand before walking out of the gym. Fuck this place.

Cassie’s P.O.V.

“Cass, you gotta eat something baby,” Shad said as he sat on the bed.

“I just wanna die in a hole,” I mumbled.

“Don’t say that,” he stated.

“Everyone hates me. I quit the fucking team,” I snapped.

“There is no team. Everyone left,” he confessed.

“You believe me right?” I looked into his eyes.

“I know you wouldn’t do something like that. Do you know who did it?” He asked me. I stayed quiet as I contemplated on telling him.

“I did it,” I said softly.

“You what?” He snapped his neck towards me.

“I did it,” I repeated.

“Don’t lie to me Casandra,” he demanded. I got up and grabbed my stuff.

“I did it,” I said one last time before leaving. I drove to my house and walked in. I went to my mom’s study and knocked on the door.

“Yes Casandra?” She said not taking her eyes off the computer in front of her.

“I’ll take you up on the offer,” I announced.

“You mean that you’ll leave that ghetto school Lenore and go to Jefferson?” She flicked her eyes towards me. I nodded as she squealed excitedly. Goodbye Lenore High.

Drake’s P.O.V.

I was walking back to my car after going get My some more juice. She said she would practically die if she didn’t get more. I could never say no to her. I spotted Nebby walking in my direction but she wasn’t looking at me. I grabbed her elbow and pulled her to the side.

“God Aubrey! I almost slapped the shit out of you,” she glared at me.

“Why are you still in town?” I asked her. She laughed and shook her head.

“My boyfriend and I were helping my friend get settled into her house,” she smirked at me.

“Why are you smirking?” I scrunched my face up.

“You’ll see,” she said before walking away.
~

I got out of bed with Nicki and My to answer my phone. I went into the other room and answered. “Yeah?” I yawned.

“She did it,” Shad said.

“She really did that to Nicki?” I asked shocked. I didn’t really think Cassie could pull something like this off. She has a good heart, or at least had.

“Yeah, she told me three times. I don’t know what to do man. I love that girl but I don’t know if I could be with her after this,” he sighed.

“Sleep on it and we’ll talk about this tomorrow,” I told him before saying bye. I got back in bed and was almost asleep.

“Daddy?” My called out.

“Yeah?” I opened my eyes.

“Why is mommy sad?” She asked curiously.

“There are some mean people in this world,” I mumbled. She shrugged and went back to sleep. I don’t know if Cassie did this for sure but I am gonna get to the bottom of this.
